Organic seaweed from La Patrona

Covering letter to the delivery from 12/14/2022:

Dear CrowdFarmer,

We are very thrilled that you can finally enjoy our seaweed.  Thank you very much for trusting us.

All our algae are hand-harvested at La Patrona in the Galicia coast, so we can choose the best specimens, and let the youngest continue growing. Once harvested, we wash them manually, dry them under 40ºC and pack them by hand in the compostable containers you have in your hands. Although we put a lot of effort into washing them very carefully you may find some small materials of marine origin that have gone unnoticed, and that,  although the algae are not allergenic, it may contain traces of fish, mollusks, and crustaceans.

In your box, you can enjoy the following seaweed:

Kombu (40g) (Laminaria ochroleuca), a Brown seaweed with a thick and flat-leaf, with high iodine content, ideal to enjoy with stews and legumes.

Wakame (40g) (Undaria pinnatifida), Japanese brown kelp that grows in our waters, with an elongated thin leaf, soft flavor slightly sweet.

Sea spaghetti (40g) (Himanthalia elongata), a brown seaweed with an elongated, thin and flattened shape, reaches 3 meters. It grows naturally in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Sea lettuce (30g) (Ulva sp.) is a green seaweed with a thin round leaf, with a soft seafood-like taste, and very rich in antioxidants.

Velvet horn seaweed (40g) (Codium sp.), green seaweed with a cylindrical front and spongy with a felt-like touch, and a strong scent of the sea (like a barnacle).

Seaweed mix (40g), if you can´t decide for only one, enjoy the mixture of sea spaghetti, wakame, and sea lettuce

As you can see, every bag brings a recipe because we want to give you cooking ideas, but you can enjoy them like any other vegetable: raw in salads, with scrambled eggs, rice, tempura, with or without pasta, etc. We would be very happy if you could share your own recipes with us on Facebook or Instagram @algaslapatronaseaweed. We hope you enjoy your small piece of Galician ría as much as we do preparing it for you. A hug from the Farmers  Cristina & Camila😊

  1. Recently I have tried your WAKAME seaweed in various combinations – on lentils, with fresh fish coming with spaghetti, in scrambled eggs … – and I am ENTHUSED! Next I’m going to try already soaked seaweed leftovers in oil, with roasted sesame seeds, as a side dish or in a salad … and I’m looking forward to, peu à peu, trying further seaweed varieties from you!
Finally, European seaweed can make it onto our mainland table, too –
thanks to you, Christina & Camila!
