Bio Almonds from Apulia

Covering letter to the delivery from Terradiva in Minervino Murge, Apulia:

Dear CrowdFarmer,

Thank you for choosing to adopt one of our olive trees, you are supporting our young brand “TERRADIVA organic farm”! You are helping us to build the future of the company that our grandparents started and that our father Michele strengthened and enlarged.

It was not at all granted that we, the third generation of the family, would decide to found the TERRADIVA brand, building on the family agricultural tradition, here in Minervino Murge in Southern Italy, especially after our diverse experiences studying and working in different fields around Italy and Europe.

Your support confirms that we have made the right choice, that we are not alone in our project of organic farming brought on by small producers, attentive to innovation, sustainability and care for their territory. The almonds you receive are the result of a year of work in the fields and of our efforts in taking care of every single tree. We harvest the almonds in September, and we personally supervise the hulling, drying, shelling and careful manual selection of the almonds. We then package and label each almond bag at the farm.

The 3kg of almonds that you will taste belong to two typical varieties of Puglia: Filippo Cea and Genco. The Filippo Cea almond is smaller than the Genco, it often has a twin seedling, which means that in the same shell we can sometimes find two entwined almonds. Its taste is sweet, delicate, buttery. The Genco almond has a larger size, an intense, aromatic and persistent flavor, with occasional light bitter notes.

Our advice is to experiment with almonds in many ways: plain, as a snack during work breaks; toasted in the oven with spices as appetizers or aperitifs; in biscuits, in sweet and savoury pies, in salads, with chicken, with fish, with soft cheeses.

For optimal conservation we suggest storing the almonds in one or more airtight glass jars, away from heat sources, in a cool and dry place. Be careful: when temperatures rise above 24 degrees Celsius, we recommend that you keep them in the refrigerator, since, being organic almonds, not treated with synthetic chemicals, food moths could develop.

In our farm we produce almonds and olive oil, which you can find on the CrowdFarming website. THANK YOU again, we would love you to visit our farm, you are welcome in Puglia!
