Rice from Riet Vell in the Ebrodelta

Dear CrowdFarmer,

Riet Vell is an exceptional company. It was created 20 years ago thanks to the involvement of almost 200 people and entities who wished to take a step forward in promoting agricultural systems which truly benefit the conservation of high-value environmental areas as well as their rich biodiversity.

The rice that you are receiving now is the result of an intense and complex work in our farm which is located very close to the sea, in Ebro delta, one of the most valuable and best preserved wetlands in the Mediterranean basin. Most possibly, in the 50m² used to produce these 10kg of rice, flamingos, herons, ducks and seagulls, with whom we love sharing space and part of the rice we produce, have walked and fed during this cultivation cycle. The 2022 campaign was particularly complicated due to the high temperatures we endured in May and June, which affected the availability of water on our farms.

You have received 5 kg of brown rice and 5 kg of white rice of the Guara variety, originating from the Ebro delta and cultivated in a completely organic way. The brown rice is the result of removing the hard shell that covers the grain of rice as it comes out of the plant, and therefore maintains some protective layers that provide fats, fibers and vitamins. They are responsible for requiring a longer cooking time. By removing these membranes we obtain the white rice, which has  a large capacity to absorb aromas and flavours.

All our rice is vacuum packed in order to guarantee appropriate preservation, and it can easily be conserved for more than two years . Once opened, the package should be stored in a cool and dry place. Sometimes during handling, for a small blow for instance, the package can lose its vacuum. This does not imply any type of problem and the rice continues to be in perfect condition.
